Ouagadougou 2018 – Second Africtivists Summit

AFRICTIVISTES invites you to take part in the second Summit of the African League of Bloggers and Cyber-Activists for Democracy, “AFRICTIVISTES”, taking place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on 22 and 23 June 2018. The theme is:

“Digital democracy in Africa: What mechanisms can foster collaboration between governments and civil society actors?”

Africtivistes is a dynamic association active across African countries. It focuses on “consolidating democracy through digital technology” at both national and, above all, continental level. It aims to serve as a guardian of democracy in African countries and is committed to intervening directly, or involving other actors, in processes of political and social change. It also leads projects that promote development and civic participation in democratic processes, particularly in the following areas: (i) good governance; (ii) transparency; (iii) participatory democracy; (iv) accountability; (v) the fight against corruption; and (vi) ending impunity.

The 2018 Ouagadougou Summit will mark the end of our major Africa Media Cyber Security training programme. Launched in ten West African countries, it aims to train 500 professional journalists and civil society media actors in cyber security. This second edition aims to foster dialogue among multiple stakeholders — government, civil society, international organisations, and regional and sub-regional institutions — on responsible activism and young Africans’ use of new media to promote democracy.

More than a hundred changemakers, bloggers, web activists, social entrepreneurs and netizens from 50 African countries will gather to discuss youth engagement through the media, participatory democracy, transparency, accountability and e-participation. The first Anna Gueye Award for Civic Engagement will be presented at the 2018 Ouagadougou Summit.
