AfricTivistes Democracy Observatory: An in-depth analysis of democracy in sub-Saharan Africa

This 388-page book forms part of the AfricTivistes Observatory on Democracy, which aims to raise awareness amongst African populations of the excessive impact of presidential terms of office by encouraging citizen participation in the building of democratic states.

An X-ray of Democracy in Sub-Saharan Africa explores these systemic dynamics through a critical analysis of African political regimes, in particular the phenomena of hyper-presidentialism, the manipulation of constitutions and life terms.

As a reminder, the AfricTivistes Democracy Observatory is a citizens’ forum aimed at addressing a range of interconnected issues relating to democracy in Africa. It will focus on addressing diverse and complex issues, ranging from the impact of digital technologies on democracy to the problem of hyper-presidentialism in certain countries, including the expansion of civic space and restrictive legal frameworks.
