Under the implementation of the Charter Project Africa, AfricTivistes is developing an open and massively accessible distance learning programme on democracy, good governance and elections (MOOC DEG). These online courses are delivered to beneficiaries in close line with the objectives of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG) and the African Governance Platform (AGA).
This important project activity will be an open framework for knowledge building and learning on citizen engagement, participatory democracy, elections, transparency, access to information and good governance on the continent and beyond.
The MOOC “Democracy, Elections and Governance in Africa” aims to address the information gap, difficulties in accessing institutional content and media bias.
Thus, the programme targets young people, civil society actors, media actors and professionals, public administration officials (central or local). A MOOC DEG learners’ forum will serve as a platform to build a network of diverse profiles around the ACDEG guiding principles.
The development of a distance learning programme contributes to making the African Charter for Democracy, Elections and Good Governance known to the population in general and to specific targets (citizen activists, youth from grassroots community organisations (CBOs), members of CSOs, bloggers, web activists, professional media actors, etc.) in particular.
The programme provides access to several online courses, but also to various interactive educational contents (videos, quizzes, FAQ and Forum), which allow stakeholders to better understand ACDEG. It also explains the role and functioning of the African Governance Architecture.
