AfricTivistes premiers Sahel à Égalité documentary film
AfricTivistes is releasing a documentary film titled “Sahel à Égalité: Digital in service of reducing inequalities” (Sahel on Equal Terms: Digital Solutions for Reducing Inequalities) discussing the multiple disparities in the Sahel region. This film is produced as part of the Sahel Insight project which explores how digital technology can become a powerful ally in the fight against disparities.
In this vast territory marked by profound social and economic inequalities, the Sahel is beset by political instability and the threat of terrorist groups. In this challenging context, communities face numerous difficulties that often leave them living in dire poverty. AfricTivistes implemented the Sahel Insight project in 2022 and 2023 to contribute to the fight against inequalities in the Sahel using digital technologies.
It is in this backdrop that the pan-African organisation is unveiling “Sahel à Égalité” (Sahel on Equal Terms: Digital Solutions for Reducing Inequalities). This documentary film explores the disparities in access to basic services, highlighting the challenges, local solutions, and citizen mobilisation, particularly that of Sahel Activists in Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Senegal. These actors use digital tools to inform, raise awareness, advocate and prompt actions contributing to reduce these inequalities.
“Sahel à Égalité” showcases the difficulties faced by communities in accessing education, healthcare, electricity, and potable water, through powerful testimonies and insightful analyses.
Beyond merely highlighting the challenges, this film serves as a genuine call to action. It underscores the importance of uniting forces to trigger social and economic change. By sharing success stories and inspiring initiatives, the film encourages everyone to engage in the struggle for equality.
This cinematic production combines art and activism to provide a hopeful and resilient perspective for the peoples of the Sahel. Through the power of digital technology and citizen engagement, it is possible to draw attention to inequalities and take effective action for a fairer future.
From January 2022 to March 2023, AfricTivistes, in partnership with Wildaf, Wacsi, and Oxfam, implemented the Sahel Insight project across four countries (Chad, Burkina Faso, Niger and Senegal). An online advocacy campaign and a series of training sessions were rolled out to enhance the capacities of civil society actors and engaged citizens covering topics such as leadership, communication, digital advocacy, risk management, and gender issues, among others.
It could be recalled this documentary film comes after an AfricTivistes online awareness raising and advocacy campaign on inequalities launched in May 2024 as part of the Sahel Insight project. This project promotes citizen mobilisation for public policies reducing inequalities. The project trained 75 young people who have been running campaigns in this regard in Burkina Faso, Chad, Niger, and Senegal since 2022.
